Happy 2017! We hope you enjoyed the Holidays with your family and friends, eating delicious food.
Now that it’s over, you may be feeling guilty about the extra calories you consumed. And may have included “losing weight” in your New Year’s Resolutions. We know this is not an easy one to accomplish, but here are a few hydrating tips to help you.
Drink Water
“Staying hydrated is essential to your health and weight loss goals,” says Amy Shapiro MS, RD, CDN of Real Nutrition NYC. She suggests that you make a habit to drink at least one glass before work and then continue throughout the day.
According to a study in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism Drinking, more water may increase the rate at which healthy people burn calories.
After drinking approximately 17 ounces of water (about 2 tall glasses) participants’ metabolic rates increased by 30%. The researchers estimate that increasing water intake by 1.5 liters a day (about 6 cups) burns an extra 17,400 calories over the course of a year. That’s a weight loss of approximately 5 pounds per year!
Drink Green Tea
Believe it or not, Green Tea is a very effective fat burner! Most people opt for coffee over tea unaware they are missing out on a major metabolism boost. The brew contains catechins, a type of antioxidant that helps trigger the release of fat from cells. This helps speed the liver’s capacity for turning fat into energy. In a recent 12-week study, participants who drank 4-5 cups of green tea daily, and then did a 25 minute workout, lost an average of 2 more pounds and more belly fat than the non-tea drinking exercisers.
Drink Oolong Tea
A traditional Chinese antioxidant-rich tea that not only helps keep cholesterol levels low and aids digestion. It can also help increase your metabolism. Oolong – like Green Tea – is also packed with catechins, improving the body’s ability to metabolize fat, boosting weight loss efforts. A study in the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine found that participants who regularly sipped oolong tea lost 6 pounds over the course of the six-week time period. That’s 1 pound a week! Oolong tea is just one of the 22 Best Teas for Weight Loss!
Skip Diet Soda
Contrary to popular belief, drinking diet soda can actually get in the way of reaching your goal of having a flat belly. According to research published in the journal Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, artificially sweetened beverages may disrupt the body’s normal metabolic response to sugar, increasing appetite! Diet drinks are being linked to weight gain, metabolic syndrome and a host of other ills.
Don’t Make the Mistake of Drinking Sugary Drinks Instead!
They are packed with calories, therefore you want to cut it out of your diet. And choose homemade teas that increase your metabolism (you can sweeten them with stevia or agave syrup). Or use the proven miracle beverage known as Purified Water. It’s colorless, odorless, pure, and delicious to drink!
These tips should get you off to a very good start.
