Reverse Osmosis For Your Home

Looking for super high purity drinking water, right at your kitchen sink? A Reverse Osmosis (RO) drinking water system is the perfect solution!

Clean, great-tasting water plays an important role in everyday life — from drinking and cooking to caring for your family and home. One popular water treatment option is a Reverse Osmosis (RO), a highly effective purification system designed to improve water quality at a single point of use, typically at the kitchen sink.

What is Reverse Osmosis (RO)?

Reverse osmosis is a trusted water purification process used in many settings, including medical applications, laboratories, and even large-scale desalination projects (removing salt from sea water to produce drinking water). This same proven technology can also be adapted for residential use, providing families with an additional layer of water treatment right where they need it most.

To understand Reverse Osmosis, it helps to think back to the concept of “osmosis” from our school days: a natural process where water moves through a membrane to balance concentrations, such as how plants absorb water through their roots. Reverse Osmosis works by applying pressure to household water, pushing it through a specialized membrane that allows purified water to pass through while filtering out all the unwanted elements. The treated water is stored for use, while the remaining water is safely discharged.

How a Residential Reverse Osmosis (RO) System Works

A residential Reverse Osmosis system uses multiple stages of filtration to provide the most high quality drinking water.

    1. Pre-Filter: The first filter helps protect the system by reducing sediment, debris, and chlorine before the water reaches the membrane. This step supports the overall performance and longevity of the system.

    2. Membrane: The RO membrane is the “work-horse” of the system.  It removes inorganic compounds such as heavy metals, arsenic, chromium 6, mercury, nitrates, cadmium, cyanide and more. It also provides protection from microorganisms in the water such as bacteria, viruses, giardia and cysts.

    3. Post-Filter: After the water is purified, the post-filter helps polish the water by removing unwanted organic compounds, improving taste and clarity.

    4. Remineralization Filter: Before consumption, water from the storage tank passes through an activated carbon and calcite filter, adding back minerals to the RO water and further improving the water’s taste.

Benefits of a Reverse Osmosis (RO) System at Home

Many families choose to install a RO system in their home to feel 100% confident in the quality of the water that they are drinking, but there are LOTS of other benefits!

    • Quality: RO water is consistently high quality and great tasting! No BPA leeching from plastic water bottles. No unknown water quality from “spring water” purchased at the store.
    • Kids & pets: RO water is perfect for filling kids’ water bottles to take to school, for making baby formula, and for filling the water bowl for your beloved pets
    • Cost savings: The cost of installing a RO system in your home is quickly returned when you can fill your own water bottle for only $0.12 per gallon!
    • Ease: RO water available right at your kitchen sink means no more hauling cases of water bottles from the store or lifting big water jugs.
    • Environmentally friendly: Switching to RO water helps reduce the masses of disposable plastic water bottles that are clogging up our landfills.

An added benefit: a water line from the RO system can often be attached directly to your refrigerator so you can enjoy chilled purified water straight from your fridge’s water dispenser and crystal clear ice cubes from your ice maker!

    Maintenance

Like any water treatment system, an RO unit performs best with routine care. Annual preventative maintenance typically includes replacing the pre- and post-filters to ensure they continue working effectively. This regular upkeep helps protect the membrane, supports consistent performance, and ensures your system continues delivering high-quality water.

The good news is that filter replacements are straightforward and cost-effective, making maintenance a simple part of long-term water care.
